This project involved the demolition of a deteriorating bungalow and the construction of a new, sustainable single-story dwelling on the same site in the Eden Valley. Designed to be a “forever home” for the applicants, the new bungalow blends high-quality, traditional materials with modern environmental standards, including local stone, solar gain optimization, and renewable technology. The design prioritises accessibility, with a fully accessible ground floor and improved site access.
Sustainable elements include a greenfield-rate drainage system, air-tight insulation, and a low carbon footprint, supporting Eden District’s vision for sustainable growth. The proposal aligns with the Eden Local Plan and National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), demonstrating economic, social, and environmental benefits. The project upholds local distinctiveness, enhances community longevity, and reinforces sustainable design principles.
