Hotel Architecture in Cumbria | Hotel and Wellness Retreat | Ashwood Design
Nature-led
Hotel architecture in Cumbria should belong to its landscape. That is the thinking behind our early vision for a new hotel and wellness retreat situated to the North of Carlisle. The scheme has the potential to support local tourism, create new jobs and strengthen the visitor economy.
Biophilic design is central to our approach. In other words, the retreat is designed to connect guests with nature at every turn. Large areas of glazing frame views of the gardens, while natural stone and timber bring warmth and texture indoors. Meanwhile, the planted green roof extends the landscape over the building. The result is a calm, restorative setting that supports guests’ wellbeing.
Informed Design
Good design starts with understanding the site. For that reason, we are working with ecologists at Envirotech from the outset. Their surveys and advice will help us protect existing habitats and enhance biodiversity. Ecological input at this early stage also helps avoid surprises later in the design process.
Alongside them, Westwood Landscape Design is shaping the gardens and the arrival experience. Together, we are developing wildflower planting, new trees and sweeping stone-edged paths. Planting choices will support wildlife and look natural through the seasons. Because the team works closely together, the building and landscape are designed as one.
A locally rooted approach
This project reflects our commitment as a Cumbrian practice to high-quality, locally rooted development. Our experience across design, planning and project management means our schemes are deliverable as well as distinctive. We believe that is the foundation of good hotel architecture in Cumbria.
