Located in the heart of the Lake District National Park, this project involves the conversion of a traditional bank barn and attached farmhouse into two private dwellings.
We were appointed to undertake the full architectural design, including concept development, planning liaison, technical design and tender procurement.
The brief sought to celebrate the natural character and craftsmanship of the existing structures, retaining as much of the original stonework, timber framing and agricultural form as possible. Additional glazing was introduced in carefully chosen locations, sensitive to the visual impact on the local landscape while maximising daylight, outlook and long views towards Helvellyn.
The result is a pair of contemporary country homes that sit comfortably within their setting, combining local materials with modern living and an enhanced connection to the landscape.
