This concept for a replacement home is located in Lanercost, Cumbria. The Architect explores how the architectural character of Lanercost Priory can influence a modern design approach. The Priory’s pointed arches, seen throughout its north aisle and clerestory arcades, provided the starting point for the project’s key forms and proportions.

The building’s curved southern wall follows the movement of the sun, allowing light to track across the interior and bringing warmth into the main living spaces through the afternoon.

The proposal combines local character with contemporary detailing, creating a design that feels rooted in its setting while responding to modern lifestyles.
