We are excited to share our latest architectural project: the proposed replacement dwelling at Lanercost that has been submitted for planning. This project embodies our commitment to sustainable, thoughtful design that harmonizes with its natural surroundings while meeting modern living needs.
Site Context and Vision
Located on 1.6 acres in the village of Lanercost, the site offers privacy, extensive gardens, and scenic countryside views. Our proposal replaces the existing 3-bedroom house with a spacious, modern family home designed for a family of five. The design respects the rural context while providing contemporary comfort and functionality.
Design Approach
Key design considerations include:
- Local Context: The home’s design draws on the area’s agricultural architecture, blending traditional materials like timber and stone with modern zinc detailing and large glazing for natural light and views.
- Sustainability: The new dwelling is highly energy-efficient and powered by renewable energy, far exceeding current standards. It is designed to serve future generations with sustainability at its core.
- Landscaping: A “landscaping first” approach ensures the house integrates seamlessly with its surroundings, preserving existing trees and enhancing green spaces.
- Footprint and Massing: The building’s layout maximizes the use of land and light while maintaining a respectful distance from the road to ensure privacy.
Planning Alignment
The design meets local and national planning guidelines, including the Carlisle Local Plan (2015-2030) and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). It aligns with policies that prioritize superior design, sustainability, and respect for the local environment.
Looking Ahead
This proposal represents the future of rural living—functional, beautiful, and sustainable. We are eager to move forward with the planning process and transform this into a modern family home that respects its rural heritage while embracing innovation.
