This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming Liv Ullyart to Ashwood Design HQ for her work experience. Liv, who has just completed her GCSEs, is now looking forward to pursuing her A-Levels. We asked her a few questions about her experience with us:
1. Why did you choose to do your work experience at Ashwood Design?
“I chose to do my work experience at Ashwood Design because of the fantastic things I’ve heard about the company. Everyone I’ve spoken to has had only good things to say and encouraged me to explore what a career in architecture could be like. My dad was a big influence in my decision, as he spoke highly of the company, and I thought it would be a wonderful place to see if architecture might be something I’d like to pursue in the future.”
2. What did you do at Ashwood Design, and what did you enjoy the most?
“When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by the lovely Holly, who walked me through what I’d be doing during my time here. I started by watching tutorial videos on how to use SketchUp, and I followed along on the computer. After completing the tutorials, I created a floor plan and designed a Pinterest board to detail what my lodge would look like. My favourite part was definitely creating my lodge on SketchUp. It was so satisfying to see it transform from an empty space to a fully furnished lodge—I loved every moment of the process!”
3. Would you consider a career in architecture?
“Throughout my work experience, I often thought about a career at Ashwood, and it’s hard not to consider it! The people here are so lovely and welcoming, making it an absolute yes for me. I would love to work at Ashwood in the future and plan on doing more work experience as I progress through 6th form. The team was incredibly kind, and I really appreciate all the support they gave me.”
